I made a short comic for my friend Ben's birthday card using characters that he uses in the comics that he writes. These are just two panels from the epic saga. The Rebel

And finally we have Sterling Morrison. Named after the guitarist of the Velvet Underground, Sterling is the middle child of the three cats. Without the seniority of Kimmswick, or the youthful cuteness of Zardoz, Sterling is left being the forgotten one which leaves him only one choice. To REBEL. Sterling spends most of his nights out at the local all ages punk venue "Claws" and usually stumbles back around dawn, smelling of catnip. When not sleeping you can find Sterling bumming around at the park, frightening mice, practicing on his broken guitar, or listening to records. His favorite bands are Crass, The Ramones, Velvet Underground, The Stooges, and Beat Happening.

Kimmswick

This is the Godfather of the bunch. He's the oldest of the cats, the most favored, and kind of calls the shots around the house. I especially like his shimmery pink ascot.

A Very Zardoz Christmas

First off, Merry Christmas everyone! And with it being the season of gift giving I always try to think of things I can make for my friends instead of wracking my brain for something to buy them. Homemade gifts are usually appreciated more anyways (to some).

Our good friends Ben and Amber have three cats and like all cat owners are pretty crazy about them. So for their present I decided to do portraits of all of them, and put them in clothes that capture their personality (I could see how this might be overboard for some). Anyhow, this is their newest cat, Zardoz. He's the youngest and the most kitten like of the three so he gets to be a sailor. Kudos goes to Stephanie for the sailor outfit idea. Expect the next two in the coming days.

New Glasses

One thing you gotta know if you're my buddy is that you'll probably be drawn a few times and posted on my blog. Here's my buddy Ben again. He also sometimes draws comics which are pretty funny. You can see them here.

I'm off to San Diego today so tomorrow's post will be all the way from Sunny Southern California. Possibly even posted from a hammock.

If you're going to Karaoke on a Saturday night it's always a good idea to bring some sketching paper with you to amuse yourself while waiting for your turn to sing. Thanks Ben for the sheet of paper!

Catdad meets Batman

I went to a dance performance last night at Valentine's featuring my friend Robert Tyree in a partially improvised piece interpreting the concept of conversation and applying it to modern dance. I'm wouldn't be able to do justice to the performance by attempting to describe it, so let's just say that it was very good and leave it at that. While waiting for the show and enjoying some happy hour perks I sketched my friend Ben reading a Batman comic.

Speaking of shows, check out The Nimble Owl's post on the newest installation at the Emerson Space Case at the corner of NE 30th and Emerson. The piece is based off a Curious George illustration and was done by Portland artist Luke Forsyth. We all chipped in to put it together and are pretty happy with the results.

#1 Blog Dog

I drew this from a picture of my friend Ben who, despite being blurry in many pictures, is quite photogenic. I wasn't happy with the first one so I drew a second one which I'm actually really happy with. I'm thinking of putting my animal project on hold and doing this on a full size canvas. Too bad my pen has to be running out of ink for me to get that shading effect. He's got his own blog which you should check out if you get a chance. It's mostly youtube videos, food he makes, and pictures of Batman.
